Northwest Community College has been a part of this historic area since the mid-1970, serving communities (Gitanmaax, Sik-e-Dakh, Kispiox, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, Gitanyow, Hagwilget, Moricetown, Hazelton, New Hazelton, South Hazelton, the Kispiox Valley, and Two-Mile) in the traditional territories of the Gitxsan and Wet'sewt'en people in the Upper Skeena region of BC.
Northwest Community College in Hazelton is a leader in promoting and including cultural components in its program offerings. The Campus offers college access programs including Career and College Preparation, Workforce Training & Continuing Studies job-skills programs, career-ready programs like Early Childhood Education, Computer Technology and innovative health care, natural resource management and tourism programs.
In response to the needs of the local communities, additional educational opportunities are available on a rotational and on-demand basis. With cooperation from communities and community groups, various partnerships have been established over the years. Partnerships include assisting Education Societies to implement programs and moreducational access in their home communities.
