NWCC offers new foundation and apprentice trades program
The Road Building & Heavy Construction Foundation program is six weeks long. The training, which combines in-school training and worksite experience, is a pre-employment program for individuals who wish to enter the road building and heavy construction industry. Participants will receive the following certifications: Occupational First Aid Level 1,Transportation Endorsement, Traffic Control Flagging, WHMIS, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
The Road Building & Heavy Construction Foundation Program will run from Feb. 15 until Mar. 26, 2010. The course costs $900.
The Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice Program is four weeks long. It also combines in-school and work-based training; during the course, students will gain significant hands-on experience driving different heavy equipment including an articulated rock truck, excavator, dozer and grader.
The Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice Program will run from Mar. 29 until Apr. 23, 2010. The course costs $9,000.
Students enrolling in the Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice Program must complete the Road Building & Heavy Construction Foundation Program beforehand, or have successfully passed the industry training assessment (ITA) exam and have acceptable field experience signed for by their employer.
Eligible participants may be able to access funding through NWCC to help pay for these courses.
