What’s ACE IT?
ACE IT stands for Accelerated Credit Enrolment in Industry Training.
It is a dual-credit, industry certification program that enables secondary school
students to earn both high school graduation credits and credit
for the first level of the technical training part of an Industry Training
program or apprenticeship.
ACE IT programs are developed and offered as partnerships between
school districts and post-secondary institutions. Local employers
also get involved in the development of ACE IT programs, and
students who complete these programs typically have very good
success in finding employment.
Who’s ACE IT for?
Grade 11 or 12 students, with good academic standing, who have
not yet graduated.
How does ACE IT work?
Once accepted, students spend one semester (minimum) at Northwest
Community College receiving Level 1 training in a trades program
(see options below).
When the program is successfully completed, this is
what ACE IT students get…
- Level 1 certificate and graduation credits
- One
semester (or more) at NWCC, learning and working hands-on in
the Trades shops with qualified instructors and other college
students
- Tuition fees paid by ITA (Industry Training
Authority), through the School District
- Level 1 credit
that’s recognized by post-secondary
institutions in BC who offer further technical training in
the relevant trade
- An early career start and enhanced
employment opportunities in a trade or industry occupation
with serious demands for qualified trades people
