CMHW 102 Therapeutic Relationships in Mental Health

This course will prepare students to work in the field by providing them with the skills and techniques necessary for developing a successful therapeutic relationship. This will be accomplished by emphasizing communication skills, including empathy, warmth and respect. Students will have the opportunity to practice and develop a variety of skills (conflict resolution, problem solving and leadership) in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Students will also be introduced to techniques used in group settings (group therapy). In addition, stress management theories and techniques will be explored. The importance of self-awareness will be stressed throughout this course.
