CMHW 104 Addictions and Mental Health Issues

This course will provide the students an opportunity to develop the beginning knowledge and skills for effective responses to clients experiencing co-existing alcohol and other drug dependency addiction and mental illness. Emphasis will be on understanding addictions, intervention approaches and prevention. The importance of culture in working with addictions is explored; screening assessment as well as treatment and relapse prevention are discussed from an aboriginal perspective. Historical factors that contribute to addictions in aboriginal communities are explored.
