In this course we will study the birth of the Canadian Nation up to the mid 1800s. We will attempt to make the more remote past of this country meaningful to us today. We will examine the interrelationship between native people and newcomers, the nature of French Canadian society and the politics of economic and social development in Quebec , Ontario , the Maritimes and the West.
