Northwest Community College (NWCC), Houston, Hazelton, and Terrace campuses, invites applications for auxiliary Instructors in the Youth/Adult Exploratory Trades Sampler (YETS) programs. The on-call period will commence as soon as possible and end June 29, 2018. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor Scale.
Duties: Teach and carry out other functions related to instructing the Welding and Mechanical modules in the Youth/Adult Exploratory Trades Sampler programs (as scheduled below). These programs are designed to give students a basic technical knowledge and hands-on experience in Skilled Trades (listed below).
Houston: as soon as possible – Mar 2, 2018
Terrace: March 26 – Apr 20, 2018
Hazelton: Apr 23 – May 12, 2018
Houston: May 28 – Jun 28, 2018
Hazelton: May 14 – Jun 2, 2018
Journeyperson Certification with the Red Seal (Interprovincial) endorsement, Grade 12 or equivalent, and a minimum 5 years of varied field experience as a trades Journeyperson and teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Provincial Instructor Diploma, other relevant certifications and demonstrated enthusiasm for their trade. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Require skills/abilities include:
- Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor learners of a variety of ages
- Well-developed classroom and shop management techniques
- Demonstrated ability to represent NWCC and work collaboratively with external stakeholders
- Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)
- Willingness to embrace the characteristics of our strategic plan (adventurous, transformative, and integrity) and apply them to teaching
