Dr. Denise Henning era begins at NWCC

TERRACE Northwest Community College (NWCC) welcomes Dr. Denise Henning today as its new president and CEO. Dr. Henning comes to NWCC from University College of the North (UCN) in Manitoba where she served as president and vice-chancellor since 2006. With a distinguished career as an author, researcher, faculty and administrator, Dr. Henning is recognized as a leader in post-secondary education with a reputation for building relationships with colleagues, communities, and other post-secondary institutions. Im honoured and excited about the opportunity to lead Northwest Community College a model of post-secondary education success, Dr. Henning said. I intend to build on the Colleges strong foundations and see it through a new era of growth, partnership and prosperity. As a Cherokee/Choctaw originating from Creek County in Oklahoma, Dr. Henning has dedicated her life to working towards inclusion and equity in higher education and she uses these values in her teaching and administration to energize people to think progressively and creatively while focusing on the needs of students. I have a deep passion for equity and inclusion in higher education and Im dedicated to assisting students, faculty, staff, and administrators from all backgrounds appreciate the rich heritages present in our country and in our contemporary world, Dr. Henning said. Northwest BC is such an area of rich heritage and culture and I look forward to building relationships in the communities we serve. The incoming president extends her thanks to Cathay Sousa, who took on the colleges interim presidency in late September 2010 following the departure of former president Stephanie Forsyth.
