NWCC HR manager earns certification

TERRACE Northwest Community College (NWCC) Human Resources Manager Cheryl Pelletier can now add the initials CHRP to her name thanks to recently earning the designation of Certified Human Resources Professional. Not only that, but Pelletier achieved the highest score in the northern region in her sitting of the National Professional Practices Assessment (NPPA) the final exam requirement to obtain the CHRP designation. To complete the CHRP designation, Pelletier had to master the academic knowledge base and be able to successfully apply her judgment pertaining to real-world situations as they relate to the seven functional areas of human resources: professional practice, organizational effectiveness, staffing, employee and labour relations, total compensation, organizational learning, training and development and occupational health, safety and wellness. All CHRP exams are held twice per year across Canada with five locations in BC. The Northern Region geographically encompasses all points north of Williams Lake. There were 32 participants taking the final exam in Prince George with Pelletier last fall. In recognition of her high score achievement, Pelletier received a personalized plaque and a $50 retail gift card. "We hope these gifts will remind you and others of the deserved success you have achieved by attaining this prestigious designation, which reflects your commitment to professionalism and excellence in human resources management," said spokesperson Tim Read, on behalf of the BC Human Resource Management Association (HRMA). Obtaining my CHRP designation is important to me as the credential both recognizes and formalizes my years of experience and training in the HR discipline, said Pelletier. Winning the award was a total and pleasant surprise!
