Babysitting Certificate Graduate Wins Award

Nicki Wolfenden was 12 when she took the Red Cross© - Babysitter Training course through Northwest Community College (NWCC) and today received the Red Cross Babysitter Hero Award. The Award honours outstanding young people who put their Red Cross babysitting training to work and exhibit the very best in child care. Nominated by a family she works for, Wolfenden is BC's only award recipient. She is being acknowledged for her exemplary service as a babysitter in her community of Hazelton. "I've been babysitting for six years now and love the work", explains Wolfenden. "I took the babysitter course because I thought parents would feel more comfortable knowing I had received some formal training on how to look after children." The Red Cross© - Babysitter Training course is designed for students 11 to 15 years of age and covers first aid, fire safety, accident prevention, and how to care for and entertain children at various stages of development. It's a fun, rewarding program for young entrepreneurs to learn safety and awareness. The course is offered at most NWCC campuses. Wolfenden was presented with her award, along with a $500 Hbc gift certificate from Zellers' Store Manager, Roger L'Heureux and Leah Marshall of NWCC in Terrace today at Skeena Mall. More information on the award can be found at: www.redcross.ca/nbcyukon Course information can be obtained through the Continuing Education coordinator at any NWCC campus.
