NWCC Offers Management Course for Free to Non-Profits

Resulting from a new agreement with the BC Centre for Non-Profit Development, Northwest Community Colleges (NWCC) Continuing Education & Industry Training department is offering a management course tuition-free to members of non-profit organizations in the Northwest. Developed by the Centre, the course covers a variety of topics including: leading and managing, financial management, marketing and public relations, board governance, strategic planning, evaluation and resource development. Introduction to Non-Profit Management is already being offered at the NWCC Terrace Campus and the College will start two more courses in 2009. Classes will begin Feb. 21 at the NWCC campus in Prince Rupert and Sept. 24 in Smithers. The course in Terrace filled up quickly; we did not have enough seats to meet the full demand, said Margo Van der Touw, NWCC Dean of Trades, Continuing Education & Industry Training. Non-profits are always looking for training to increase their capacity and many dont have the budget to fund it so this is a really great opportunity for our region. Each course can have up to 35 seats, 25 of which will be free on a first-come, first-serve basis to staff, board members and volunteers from non-profit organizations. A limit of one subsidized seat is available per agency. The course cost is $449 for additional seats. Participants have the option of receiving credit for the course by completing assignments and exams.
