Northwest Community College has received its third consecutive donation of $100,000.00 from Seabridge Gold Inc. . The donation will support the Intro to Trades 10 program delivered by NWCC in conjunction with school districts in Smithers, Hazelton and Terrace. This valuable program is aimed at encouraging youth to consider and pursue a career in trades to fill high-demand jobs.
The Intro to Trades 10 program immerses students in trades training at the College while maintaining their academic studies in English, Socials, and Planning. Students receive hands-on experience in automotive/heavy duty mechanics, plumbing, welding, carpentry and electrical trades. The program allows students to make informed decisions regarding their career paths in the trades and allows a smooth transition into the Accelerated Credit Enrolment in Industry Training (ACE-IT) program or the Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA) program.
To date, the Intro to Trades 10 has resulted in a significant growth in literacy skills and engagement from students according to a Coast Mountain School District report. Brian Badge, Director of College Advancement for NWCC says, “the continued support of Seabridge has a positive impact on our ability to advance trades training in Northwest B.C. and in the lives of the region’s youth.”
