Minister Mark visits NWCC’s Terrace campus

August 29, 2017

Terrace, BC – Employees and students at Northwest Community College were pleased to host a visit from Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training at the Terrace campus earlier today. Minister Mark had an opportunity to tour the campus and meet students, alumni, staff and faculty as part of her visit.

"It's great to be home in the northwest and connect with students and the spaces where they are learning and creating," said Minister Mark who toured all 25 public post-secondary institutions in three weeks. "It was very important to hear from the students about the opportunities and challenges that I would never get from a binder or briefing so that I can advocate on their behalf for the changes to help them thrive and succeed."

This was an opportunity to showcase the Terrace campus and allowed Minister Mark to visit Waap Galtsa’ap longhouse, the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art and the $18 million trades building renovation. She also got a chance to experience some of the virtual reality technology that NWCC faculty incorporate into many different courses.

“We were very excited to show Minister Mark what makes Northwest Community College so special,” said NWCC President Ken Burt. “Our focus on experiential, place-based learning is giving students new and exciting ways to learn both inside and outside of the classroom.”
