Northwest Community College is committed to maintaining daycare services on its Terrace campus in light of news that the Terrace and District Community Services Child Care Centre (TDCSS) plans to cease operating the facility in the new year.
NWCC currently provides the space at the Terrace campus to TDCSS.
TDCSS announced Tuesday, Dec. 12 that due to circumstances beyond its control it will cease operations of the facility at the end of January 2018.
“We want parents and the community to know that Northwest Community College is committed to using this space on the Terrace campus as a daycare facility,” says NWCC President and CEO, Ken Burt. “We recognize the importance of the availability of daycare spaces in the community and will be working towards ensuring this space can be used by another provider.”
NWCC is working with TDCSS to explore all options in hopes that parents with children at the facility may receive continuity of care as the transition process unfolds.
NWCC will be going through a public procurement process to identify an operator to enter into an operating agreement and provide daycare services at the Terrace campus location. Information about this process will be made public as it becomes available.
“This is a very fast-moving situation and our staff are working hard to liaise with TDCSS and other community partners to seek the best outcome possible,” says Burt. “Having daycare services available on campus is important for our students, faculty, staff and the greater community.”
